This was the driving force behind two friends decision to make better cookies than what they tasted from other bakeries. So with a couple of bucks and a dream, they opened the Cookie Tree in Yuba City, California. That was December of 1981. Jump ahead to today and you’ll find yourself in a deluxe 2,500 square foot store with more than 25 employees creating some of the best cookies you’ll ever experience.

Cookies are their thing (it is in the name), but trying to give their customers something new to try is their true passion. In fact, some of their most-loved products happened by a simple Ooops. But it’s no accident that the Cookie Tree is a favorite stop for locals and folks who “heard about it” and had to stop in to try.

Trading in the life of a commercial fisherman (think Deadliest Catch) and an office-attire day job in Seattle, Wade and Shelley Overson decided it was time for a career change. So they grabbed an atlas and thumbed through places they would like to call home. They wanted to be a part of a community that had a great small-town vibe and found themselves opening a Great Harvest Bread Co. in Chico, California.

Since their grand opening in May of 1998, they have been immersed in their business watching their number of employees jump from 8 to 40 between three different locations. Over the years they have found their customer base to be very loyal, but everyone has their favorites. From Honey Whole Wheat to Sourdough, Cinnamon Swirl to Irish Baked Potato Bread, customers are willing to line up each day to go home with a bag full of goodies that were baked earlier in the day from a whole wheat flour that is grinded fresh every day.

“The whole staff at Robb Ross is fantastic. Our relationship is like family.” Shelley Overson

That’s what Marc and Rachelle Wickliffe found in 2007 when presented with the opportunity to purchase this bakery that had been a staple in Fresno since 1939. Marc has made a career owning and operating successful restaurants so this transition into baking was a challenge he was more than able to conquer. His focus is providing the delicious items that meet their regular’s expectations while creating new treats for that passerby who likes to experiment.

Since, Marc expanded their menu to include creative cafe items for breakfast and lunch while working on a new line of products that are gluten free and sugar free. Marc’s passion can be seen through every

detail of this 7,000 square-foot building. And when you ask any of their 30 employees where Marc is? They’ll answer that Marc is in the back designing the next best thing. That’s where he spends all of his time.

“Robb Ross is great. They’ve been with us since our first day.” Rachelle Wickliffe

Mary Ann Heath started her baking career at the age of 14 working at Moss Rose Bakery. Ten years later, she bought the place. Early on Mary Ann had a vision of what a quality bakery should offer to her customers and her community, and she’s been serving up greatness for the last 30 years. Moss Rose Bakery has been an Oakdale landmark since 1904. Along with the rolls, pies, cakes, cookies and donuts – customers from all around Moss Rose Bakery for the amazing French bread that is baked fresh every day in the 100-year-old brick oven.

Everyone at Robb Ross Foods thanks you for making us your exclusive bakery goods supplier for the last 30 years. And, of course, congratulations to you Mary Ann for receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce. It is truly a deserving recognition.

For more than 20 years, the baking business has been a family affair for Santiago Tavarez, Sr. He got things rolling from the back of his van where he would drive around Tulare and Kings County to sell Mexican breads. Always having the vision to move forward, Santiago put his traveling days behind him and established La Nueva Bakery and, more recently, Maccagno’s – two of the area’s finest bakeries for Mexican bread and American-style pastries. Having his family close to him is a priority, so don’t be surprised to see his wife or daughter hard at work along side their exceptional employees. And Santiago credits the quality service that Robb Ross constantly strives for as a big part of his success.

Santiago, we thank you for your partnership with us over the years, and we look forward to sharing a bright future with you for the years to come.
